Cube Avatar v7

Virtual Reality Avatar

As someone who spends a lot of time playing and creating in virtual reality platforms like VRChat, Rec Room, Meta Horizon, and Banter, having a virtual avatar that I feel represents me and my brand is very important.

This avatar is the seventh version in my progression of self-made avatars, and it’s the first I feel I can proudly publish on my portfolio.

The design of this avatar is based on a variety of factors which relate to my personal preferences, brand, and discoveries I’ve made through the seven iterations of my avatar design.

  • The cube head & sunglasses exist because I had no clue how to model a head when I started doing these projects in 2021. The design stuck and became recognizable to my friends in VR.

  • The pants are designed as a blend of styles of sweatpants, cargo pants, and parachute pants that I own. The matching fleece utilizes a high collar to hold the cube head.

  • The shoes are designed after a pair that I received as a birthday gift from my partner. The shoes are very important to me and I wanted them to be seen on my virtual self.

  • The outerwear is designed to be a short cloak of sorts. It’s modeled after modern tech-wear, but with a calmer design and color scheme.

  • I am a big fan of stripe designs, and utilized it a lot here. The colors match that of my brand, as does the chromatic body material.

The base body model was created using the MB-Lab Blender add-on, and materials and rigging were added in Blender. The clothing was modeled in Blender and textured in Procreate. The finished avatar was brought into VRChat using Unity3D, and brought into Banter using the Banter/SideQuest Blender add-on

Below is a gallery showcasing renders of the finished avatar, as well as behind the scenes screenshots from Blender.
